This week we are focusing on RI 4.5 (text structures) please refer to your child’s interactive notebook for examples and also Moby Max to practice extra skills. We will be practicing many test taking strategies as our state testing is fast approaching! 

In spelling we are reviewing all spelling/vocabulary from this last theme newsletter. We will not test spelling or vocabulary this week.

We are having a "Bring the Change" for Leukemia and Lymphoma awareness. Students are asked to dress up and bring in loose change for this cause.

2/20-2/26  

This week we are finishing up comparing/contrasting themes and testing Wednesday. I had each student take their reading notebook home this weekend and hopefully they studied the skill RL 4.9. If not I feel confident they can study up and do great! With being out Monday I still believe we can test Thursday in S.S but if we don’t feel prepared we will Friday.

Don’t forget the history fair project is due Wednesday. Judging takes place Friday(unable to attend) Remember not to put their name on the project, just the number given. Also, don’t forget to sign the paper that acknowledges your child did most of the work and you have to list what you helped them with. Make sure to know a few things about the project as your child will explain some “highlights” of their “landmark”. Don’t stress, they just need to what it is and maybe the importance of it, etc. if they remember 2-3 things from the card, that’s fine : )) Spelling test week 2 is Friday

Good Morning!I hope everyone had a great weekend! This week we will continue to read The One and Only Ivan. We are hoping to finish this novel by next week! Our reading strategy is referring to details in a text when explaining the text and drawing inferences from the text.

 

We will test on Week 17 in Social Studies and Week 4 spelling and vocab on Friday Feb. 2.

We will have a cold read assessment for drawing inferences on Friday as well.

Please make sure that your student is bringing their social studies to school every day. If they do not have this on test day, they will have to take the test without it.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful week and snow days! This week will be kind of crazy due to the snow days. 

We will not have a spelling/vocab or a social studies test this week. We will pick back up on week 4 spelling/vocab and week 16 social studies next week Jan. 22. 

We will continue working on determining the theme of a story the rest of this week and will test on Tuesday Jan. 23. We will also continue our novel study of The One and Only Ivan.

Welcome Back! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas break! We will begin our novel study on The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. We will be reading this book in class and completing different activities. We will also take class quizzes on the pages/chapters that have been finished. The quizzes will be on things that have been discussed in class and are only to hold the students accountable for their reading.

We will test on week 3 spelling and vocabulary on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018. We will also test on Social Studies, week 15 on Friday 1/12/18.

Our reading strategy is Theme. We will be focusing on the Theme from different stories. This test will be TBA.

We are starting on Social Studies week 13. We will test this on Thursday the 14th as well!

WE WILL NOT HAVE A SPELLING TEST THIS WEEK.

Parents are allowed to come to the class party on Friday the 15th. Please make sure that you send in the party form with 5 dollars so that we can purchase breakfast. That is due Tuesday the 12th.

I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving break! This week we will begin theme 3. I will be sending home the spelling and vocab for the next 6 weeks! Please make sure that your child is studying those spelling and vocabulary words.

We will test theme 3 week 1 spelling and vocabulary on Friday 12/1/17.

We will test on Week 12 Alabama's Five Regions on 12/1/17.

We are reading the story So You Want To Be An Inventor? from our story town book this week. It is on page 414. Our focus skill for this story is fact and opinion and providing evidence for both. We will schedule the test for next Tuesday 12/5/17.

 hope you had a nice weekend. We have a busy week ahead of us. With that being said, I am not going to have spelling/vocab or a reading test. I am sending home a newsletter, but we will not start the week 1 spelling/vocab until the 27th.

We are going to focus on writing and they will have a rubric to go by which will give them a grade/test.

Lunchroom changed our time to 11:00 for Thursday, our Thanksgiving lunch. This is $5 and includes a drink.  Please let me know if you're planning to come.
Wear your field trip shirt Wednesday and comfortable tennis shoes. Parents I have attached a "good to know" about the upcoming trip. Please bring a sack lunch from home, unless you stated your child would be purchasing a lunch from the lunchroom. They will have a ice cream and gift shop so bring money if you plan to buy any of these things.

Good Morning, I hope the time change wasn't too hard on you this morning. This is a short week since we are out of school this Friday, November 10th. This Friday, November 3rd is Fall Festival. You must purchase am armband for $13 in order to participate. Friday is also the due date for field trip money ($15). Money must be turned in by 8:30 a.m. Thank you so much for candy and donations, it was greatly appreciated! I will be sending home the tests that were taken on Friday on November 1. That will be spelling theme 2 week 4 and Social studies weekly week 8.

We have our reading test on Dragons and Dinosaurs/Main Idea and Details tomorrow(Oct 31st). We will start our new reading story after the test on pg. 370 The Stranger. I hope you had a great break! This week we are starting our spelling/vocab week 3 and reading our story Mimicry and Camouflage (pg. 286). Our reading focus skill will be on cause/effect. We are continuing with nouns in LA. In S.S. we are starting the Trail of Tears.

We are continuing to work on RL 4.6 (point of view) and drawing conclusions this week. We are reading Fire Storm in Storytown.
If your child is participating in the vocabulary parade Friday, which counts towards extra credit points, the word your child will dress as needs to be approved.
If you chose to have a parent conference, I will have our meeting time to you by today or first thing tomorrow.
We take interactive notes in our reading composition books. This is a GREAT way to study our focus skill (Point of view).

Announcements for 9-25 - 9-29  
This is going to be a busy week with homecoming. We will test Thursday for week 1 spelling/vocab (new newsletter going home today) and S.S. Friday is a half day and I would not be able to test both classes on spelling since we will have an adjusted schedule. We are working on RL 4.6 (point of view) and drawing conclusions this week and next. I am also sending home a parent conference letter if you would like to meet on October 5th during school hours. Please indicate your first, second, and third choice if you would like to conference. There is an option for a phone conference as well.
  • Reading- Fire Storm pg. 344 and a variety of cold reads
  • Spelling- Week 1
  • Grammar- introducing nouns

Homework  

Students are required to review spelling and vocabulary every night. We will test every Friday on those. They are also required to read for at least 20 minutes every night. Please hold your child accountable for this! Thank you for all you do!
